JJBS Woodland Cemetery

A new cemetery and prayer hall for the Joint Jewish Burial Society.

The new Woodlands Cemetery is the first of its kind serving the Jewish community in the UK. Woodlands burials provide an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional burial retaining the natural habitat of the site and allowing trees to be planted around the grave.

The new prayer hall is designed to nestle in the ground, shielded by landscaped mounds and trees. The circular timber structure includes a feature roof and bespoke glass walls by Rebecca Salter RA. The cemetery features a series of gardens and landscaped pathways through newly planted woodland areas.
