Two other care homes jointly housing 175 residents are located on the site and this project included master planning the 2.3ha campus to improve pedestrian and vehicle access and parking, to create distinct communal gardens with improved access retaining important features including mature trees, to optimise infrastructure for the entire site including and to create a new central reception and community hub including café and synagogue serving all three care homes.
The new dementia care home comprises three floors of residential accommodation, with kitchen and plant contained in the basement. Each floor comprises two groups of eight bedrooms with each floor having its own communal kitchen, living and dining spaces to encourage a sense of community, and direct access to safe outdoor spaces. Particular attention was paid to bedroom and en-suite shower room design to allow residents to personalise their private space and to enable staff to provide care in a dignified manner. In addition to this an assited bathroom was propvided on each floor.
